Ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has been appointed as the new manager for Scottish giants Rangers.

Following the sacking of Russell Martin over two weeks ago, the former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl has been appointed as the next manager at Ibrox.

The 35-year-old German has been patiently waiting for a route back into management after leaving the Owls in July by mutual consent. Over his time in South Yorkshire, he became a popular figure after guiding them to safety in the 2023/24 campaign. However, with there being seemingly never-ending turmoil at Wednesday both on and off the pitch, this was the main reason for the former manager wanting a move away from the club.

After taking the reins in Glasgow, it's his second senior managerial role, and for all involved at Wednesday they will wish him the best. As for Rangers, their supporters will be praying that the German manager turns the tide in their favour as they currently sit sixth in the table, 13 points off the leaders, Hearts.

Despite Danny Rohl having a win percentage of 38.2% whilst at Sheffield Wednesday with an average of 1.36 points per match, Rangers fans are undoubtedly rather skeptical over the appointment of Rohl. However, Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick, believes that the 35-year-old can offer more than what is expected of him in his new job role.

Patrick said: "Regarding Danny Rohl, they [Rangers] are going to get a lot more from that man than they think they will get.

"There seems to be a real delusion amongst their support that he isn't fit for the job, and they have focused on his win record without taking in any other circumstances, so in some ways they don't deserve him."

"Danny will also be there to prove himself. He is smart enough to know how big and how tough this job is going to be but he will come out right from the start looking to make improvements."

Sheffield Wednesday fan urges Rangers supporters to look at what Danny Rohl can offer them tactically

With the step to Rangers in Martin's career seeming to be too much for him, FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick, believes that Rohl will thrive in the dugout at Rangers due to his tactical know-how and proven man management.

Obviously, the current situation at Rangers is more a case of steadying the ship for the German, but in terms of the long-term, the ultimate aim for all involved at Rangers is to win another Scottish Premiership that has eluded them since the 2020/21 season. For over a decade, there has been a dominance from their Old Firm rivals Celtic, but with the board having one eye on the future as well as the here and now, they have seen the characteristics in Rohl that can help them achieve that feat.

Patrick said: "It seems as though Rangers under Russell Martin were too tactically inflexible, and you get the complete opposite of that with Danny Rohl. During games, the tactics are fluid, he'll switch formations when needed, so, as well, he will be able to come in and asses what is needed, and he is clearly able to motivate players.

"Look at how he got players who were on their feet at Wednesday playing for us again, and we ended up surviving. So he certainly isn't a 'yes-man' either, which has been hinted at as well. It's quite obvious that he is a very good manager, and he will be up to the task, as well, [Djeidi] Gassama seems to have gone off the boil, so he'll be able to get him firing again.

"So, yeah, don't focus on the win record. Just look at what this guy can do tactically, and how he can be a strong figure to motivate players. He will come into Rangers and he will prove a lot of people wrong."
