FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on Anders Povlsen's takeover interest
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Anders Holch Povlsen is the latest name to have shown an interest in a deal to take over Sheffield Wednesday.
According to The Athletic, the businessman has been mentioned as a possible buyer of the Championship side, although it remains unclear if an official offer will be made.
The 53-year-old is currently the owner of Midtjylland, giving him experience of working in football prior to any potential takeover of the Yorkshire outfit.
However, a number of names have been linked with buying Sheffield Wednesday, so it’s far from guaranteed that Povlsen will be the club’s next owner.
Mike Ashley and John McEvoy have also been mentioned as among the interested parties in a deal for the Owls, with the initial 5 December deadline to name a preferred bidder set to be extended.

When asked about Povlsen’s interest in the club, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna highlighted his background in football as a reason to be optimistic about his capability of running the Owls.
While he was initially skeptical of the Midtjylland owner being a similarly chaotic presence as someone like John Textor, who has been extensively linked with a takeover at Hillsborough, he believes that he is actually a promising possible owner of the Championship side.
“So certainly this is the name in the race that would definitely generate some interest,” McKenna told Football League World.
“He clearly is a successful businessman, unlike Chansiri, and runs several businesses successfully.
“He does have knowledge and experience in football, currently owning [Midtjylland] and several junior clubs as well, so it’s obvious that he’s looking for a UK-based club to add to this footballing empire — Dundee United were one of the last clubs he was looking at.
“Now, one thing that maybe gave me a bit of trepidation was that this sort of operation would have John Textor-type vibes, where he has ownership in several clubs and it all ends up a bit chaotic.
“But, having read a bit more about Anders Povlsen, he does seem to be a good football owner, he has ran his club in Denmark well and something that was quite eye-catching was a successful transfer policy, which is something sorely missing at Sheffield Wednesday.”
McKenna is hopeful that Sheffield Wednesday wouldn’t be a secondary concern for Povlsen if he did take over, and that he’d be a preferred option over someone like Ashley or Textor.
“I do think that we would get plenty of his focus and attention, so I don’t think we would be seen as some sort of minor plaything for him.
“So, yeah, I certainly would take him over the likes of Mike Ashley or John Textor.
“So I suppose we just have to keep an eye on this here because there are clearly a lot of rich individuals bidding for our club, and he could well be in the mix, or at this stage he may well be mulling over a bid.
“As I said, despite that small red flag about having several clubs, I think he definitely would be a positive owner for the club and if he did take over it would ultimately be to the benefit of Sheffield Wednesday.”
Sheffield Wednesday remain bottom of the Championship table due to a 12 point deduction penalty that was automatically handed to them as a consequence of going into administration in late October.

Povlsen has built up experience and expertise in running a football club in Denmark and now wants to take that to English football.
Sheffield Wednesday are available at a lower cost than normal due to their dire financial position, making them a unique opportunity to buy a historic team at a reasonable fee.
It’s no surprise they’re such an attractive proposition for so many potential investors, but Povlsen may stand out as the best fit for being able to take the Owls forward.
