Wolves, Leeds United’s former relegation rivals, have sacked Rob Edwards after their drop to the Championship in a shock U-turn.

Sky Sports reports Edwards has been dismissed after seven months in charge, and that the club are expected to appoint Cesar Peixoto, currently head coach of Gil Vicente, as his replacement.

Edwards left Championship promotion-chasers Middlesbrough to take the Wolves job last November, and the 43-year-old initially lifted results after a dreadful start.

Despite that improvement, Wolves looked destined for the drop for some time and were relegated with five matches remaining.

Before this decision, Edwards had appeared set to front a bid for an immediate return at the first attempt.
