Sidny Cabral has been named Estrela da Amadora’s Goal of the Year winner just days before Benfica face his former side.

According to Glorioso 1904, the 23-year-old Cape Verdean full-back moved from Estrela to Benfica in this window. His award recognised a direct free-kick against Alverca on matchday three, announced during the Gala Tricolor marking the club’s 94th anniversary.

The transfer brought in six million euros for Estrela’s SAD. Cabral sent a video message thanking everyone from his time at the club, wished them well for the rest of the season and said Estrela would always be in his heart.

Presented before the winter window opened, he has worked with Benfica since the first day of January and has been a regular option for José Mourinho. He featured again in the 2-0 win over Rio Ave.

Benfica host Estrela on Sunday, 25 January at 18:00 at Estádio da Luz in the 19th round of the Liga Portugal Betclic, with the referee already confirmed.

This season, across Estrela and Benfica, Cabral is valued at two million euros and has played 20 official matches, 17 in the league, two in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. He has totalled 1,507 minutes, scoring five goals and supplying three assists.
