After arriving in the Principality on Monday to join AS Monaco on loan until the end of the season, the Ivorian international winger was presented to the press alongside the Club’s Chief Executive Officer, Thiago Scuro.

A quality attacking reinforcement. Having only just arrived at the foot of the Rock following his arrival on loan until the end of the season with the Red and Whites, Simon Adingra took part in his first group training session on Wednesday at the Performance Centre. Following his introduction to the squad, the dynamic Ivorian winger was then presented to the media in the presence of AS Monaco’s Chief Executive Officer, Thiago Scuro. Excerpts🎙️

The decision to join AS Monaco

The club from the Principality spoke to me about their interest, my qualities and the project. I quickly saw AS Monaco’s ambition through the discussions I had with head coach Sébastien Pocognoli. The sporting project immediately appealed to me, so the decision came naturally. The style of play and the environment also played a part, as did the fact of playing in a French-speaking country and league – a language I’m comfortable with – which makes my adaptation easier. I’m here to help the team and show what I can do best.

Simon should be part of the squad for Strasbourg provided there are no administrative setbacks. I haven’t worked with him before, but we have many people in common. I’ve only heard positive things about him, both as a person and in terms of his professionalism.

His current form

The season at Sunderland was marked by some more difficult moments. Today, I want to focus on the present and move forward with the Red and Whites. I feel very good, both physically and mentally, and confident about what lies ahead. Enjoyment is essential for a player with my skill set and that comes through playing time. I’ve played less recently, so I’m here to regain confidence, rhythm and that sense of being.

His ambitions with the Club

One of the objectives is to have a strong run in the Coupe de France. On a personal level, I want to give my all, help the team and fully commit to the Club’s project. Returning to the national team is also one of my ambitions. Getting back to a very high level is important to me, and I’ve spoken with Emerse Faé, the head coach of Côte d’Ivoire, who confirmed that joining AS Monaco, a major club in Ligue 1, was a very good choice.

Simon has the ability to play in two or three attacking positions, which is very important for us. He has also shown strong mentality and the ambition to return to his best level. His ability to have a positive impact on the team was decisive.

On Ligue 1 and his integration

I know Ligue 1 because I have friends who play in the league. They told me it’s a league well suited to my style and qualities. I’ve never played in it before, but I’ve already faced French teams (Olympique de Marseille with Union Saint-Gilloise), which gives me some familiarity with the league. There is still plenty of time to go this season and there is a lot of quality in this team, and from the moment I arrived my teammates welcomed me warmly and helped me – especially during the first training sessions – which made my integration easier.

He is an interesting player because he is versatile and can play in different systems. He will be beneficial for squad management and for any tactical adjustments. He is a strategic asset for the group, especially as he combines a strong mentality with real potential to help the team in the coming months, like Wout (Faes). He can indeed play on the left, on the right, in support of the striker, and as a wing-back.

Before my arrival, Wilfried Singo, who is a very good friend, told me about the environment and life at the Club. Over the past few days, we haven’t had much opportunity to talk, but that will come quickly. With Ansu Fati, we’ve already played together at Brighton and everything went very well, so knowing him will help me adapt more quickly.
