The Sky Blues have won eight of their last 10 league fixtures, putting them 12 points clear of third place Middlesbrough with only five games to go.

Coventry haven’t competed in the top flight since 2001, but they are now on the cusp of ending a 25-year wait.

The club came close to promotion in two of the last three campaigns, losing in the play-off final under Mark Robins in 2023 before a semi-final loss to Sunderland last year.

Lampard’s side will also be hoping to seal the Championship title as well, with Ipswich Town in second 12 points behind, albeit with two games in hand.

The former England international has earned a lot of plaudits for his work at the CBS Arena since taking over in November 2024.

Simon Jordan expects a number of clubs, including Crystal Palace, to seek a move for Lampard this summer following his impressive work at Coventry this season.

However, he has urged the 47-year-old to commit to the Sky Blues and to stick by owner Doug King, who gave him the opportunity to manage the team after his disappointing spells at Everton and Chelsea, amid previous links to Crystal Palace earlier in the year.

“We know that Frank Lampard can manage, we know that he can manage in the Championship, he did pretty well at Derby, he's done remarkably well at Coventry, so he deserved lots and lots of plaudits,” said Jordan, via Talksport.

“Now going into the Premier League, the reasons why it may not be harder is because most people will be queuing up to tell you how quickly Coventry are going to go back down again.

“If he actually stays there and manages Coventry, which I hope he does because there will no doubt be a load of indexing Frank Lampard for available jobs, including jobs like Crystal Palace.

“I hope he stays with the job that he was given by Doug King and the opportunity he's taken and rewarded both himself and the club with.”

Lampard began his managerial career in the Championship when he took over Derby County in the summer of 2018, where he spent one season.

He later went to Chelsea and Everton before returning for a brief second spell at Stamford Bridge as a caretaker boss.

In the 47-year-old’s second stint with the Blues, he oversaw just one win from 11 games, with the team finishing 12th in the Premier League table as a result.

Lampard made his return to management with Coventry over a year after his second spell at Chelsea, but he has so far overseen 42 wins from 77 games in charge.

The Sky Blues are now just four points from earning a top two finish, and they could even clinch their place in the top flight this weekend, depending on results.

If Middlesbrough and Millwall both fail to win, then Coventry could confirm their place in the Premier League with a win.

Next up for Lampard’s side is a home clash against 24th place Sheffield Wednesday on 11 April in a 12.30pm kick-off.

Coventry City should be keen to keep Frank Lampard

Lampard has overseen a strong season, and he’s proven that he can guide a team to promotion to the Premier League with Coventry.

While next year could be a struggle, King should look to stick with the 47-year-old, unless things are really dire, as Ipswich are seeing success now by holding onto Kieran McKenna despite being relegated last year.

And Lampard should be sticking with Coventry, even if jobs like Crystal Palace, Fulham or Bournemouth become available to him because he’s settled and things are working, and his best chance of succeeding in the Premier League might be at the CBS Arena.

He has a contract until June 2027, so there’s no immediate danger of Lampard walking away, but perhaps an extension in the summer would show a strong commitment from both that they’re in this for the long haul.
