Asharq Al-Awsat claims Al-Hilal could dismiss Simone Inzaghi after a defeat to NEOM, as the club weigh up the future of the coaching staff.

The Italian's side were beaten 2-0 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Monday, in the sixth round of the Roshn League. It was his first league defeat with Al-Hilal.

New sporting director Richard Hughes is evaluating options and will monitor technical indicators around performances over the coming weeks, particularly with a long break approaching for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The Roshn League pauses from 16 December until 11 February 2027, with Saudi Arabia hosting the Asian Cup. If the numbers trend upwards before that break, Inzaghi keeps his staff and any move for a new manager is deferred to next summer.

If the indicators worsen, dismissing the Italian becomes the likeliest outcome, with a replacement brought in to steer the team through the Asian Cup break. In that case, Al-Hilal would target candidates who fit the squad built last summer and do not require sweeping changes.

Inzaghi's contract runs until the end of this season. He took charge at the start of last term, reached the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals and won the King's Cup, though Al-Hilal lost the Roshn League title to Al-Nassr.
