With the 2025/26 Premier League in its final sprint, Sunderland are eyeing summer business while still chasing an unlikely European berth.

According to Sunderland Echo, Europe delivered last year as Granit Xhaka, Nordi Mukiele, Robin Roefs and Noah Sadiki shone, and Google’s Gemini has highlighted six further continental options.

Stade Brestois left-back Bradley Locko could future-proof a flank with Reinildo Mandava turning 32 and Arthur Masuaku short of minutes before his loan, offering elite ball progression, strong one-v-one defending and resale value.

Genoa’s Morten Frendrup would aid succession planning for 33-year-old Xhaka, ranking among Serie A’s best for tackles and recoveries and, at 25, bringing prime legs to anchor midfield.

Valencia striker Hugo Duro offers tireless pressure, forcing turnovers and runs that disrupt centre-backs, which could free Enzo Le Fée and fits Regis Le Bris’ high-intensity approach.

On the right, Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer would add Bundesliga know-how and graft, creating chances and pressing aggressively, a ready-made option at 24 and potentially available on favourable terms if they go down.

Villarreal centre-back Logan Costa, 25, brings power, aerial dominance and composed distribution to challenge and rotate with Dan Ballard and Omar Alderete, and could allow a switch to a back three.

AZ Alkmaar playmaker Sven Mijnans has stood out in a deep Conference League run and domestic cup triumph, blending vision with late penalty-area arrivals, so he could rotate with or complement Le Fée as number ten.
