For 102 years The Dell staged Southampton’s finest moments, and its tight pitch produced goals fans still recount.
According to Daily Echo, six strikes stand out, though many supporters will have their own picks.
In 1982 a sweeping move cut Liverpool open, Kevin Keegan headed into Mick Channon’s path, and the forward finished left-footed without breaking stride.
Two years later Danny Wallace met a cross with a soaring bicycle kick, the ball flashing past the keeper to become a Dell classic.
In 1993 Matt Le Tissier flicked the ball over two Newcastle defenders then volleyed home, a moment that drew a collective gasp.
A year on he went for power, collecting near halfway, riding a challenge and thundering in from nearly 40 yards, showing why fans called him ‘Le God’.
In the 3-3 draw with Derby County in 1999, Marian Pahars arrowed a left-foot drive into the top corner from 30 yards, the Latvian’s favourite goal.
On 19 May 2001, The Dell’s final competitive match brought late drama, Matt Le Tissier half-volleying a dropping ball into the roof to beat Arsenal 3-2 in the 89th minute.
The old ground shook one last time, a fairytale farewell to Southampton’s beloved home.
