Tottenham Confirm Alejo Veliz Exit as Striker Joins Bahia

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the permanent departure of Alejo Veliz, with Sky Sports reporting that the Argentine striker is set to join Brazilian club Bahia in a deal worth just under £8 million.

Veliz arrived from Rosario Central in 2023 with considerable promise, but opportunities in North London proved limited. His time at Spurs yielded just eight appearances and one Premier League goal before loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol followed.

Fresh Start Awaits

The move to Bahia offers the 22 year old the opportunity to restart his career with regular first team football.

While Tottenham supporters may wonder what might have been, the transfer appears beneficial for both club and player. Spurs recoup a sizeable portion of their investment, while Veliz gains a platform to rebuild his confidence and continue his development.

For Tottenham, this departure creates further flexibility as they continue reshaping the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a football supporter’s perspective, this feels like one of those transfers where timing simply did not work in the player’s favour.

Alejo Veliz clearly arrived at Tottenham with potential, but breaking into a competitive Premier League squad is never straightforward. Limited opportunities, combined with loan spells that failed to establish lasting momentum, meant his pathway became increasingly difficult.

Supporters may feel disappointed that a promising young striker never received an extended run in the first team. Equally, there is an understanding that modern football rarely allows young forwards unlimited patience when clubs are chasing immediate success.

The reported fee represents sensible business for Tottenham. Rather than allowing the player to drift further down the squad hierarchy, they have secured a permanent solution while giving Veliz the chance to revive his career elsewhere.

There is every possibility that regular football in Brazil allows him to rediscover the qualities that persuaded Spurs to sign him in the first place. Sometimes a fresh environment proves exactly what a talented player needs.
