Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić has been appointed to take charge of Real Madrid v Benfica in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.

UEFA confirmed the 46-year-old’s selection. The appointment follows an underwhelming first leg in Lisbon overseen by François Letexier, and Vinčić was recently at the centre of controversy in Saudi Arabia.

Vinčić will be assisted by Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačič, with David Smajc as fourth official. Christian Dingert will operate VAR, supported by Daniele Chiffi as AVAR.

This will be the seventh Benfica match Vinčić has officiated. The most recent came during the league phase of this competition against Napoli at Estádio da Luz.

Benfica visit the Bernabéu on 25 February, with a place in the Champions League last 16 at stake.
