Smalling trains with Porto after signing to season’s end with option | OneFootball

Chris Smalling trained with Porto for the first time on Thursday, a day after the club confirmed the 36-year-old’s arrival.

The former England international has signed until the end of the season with an option for a further year, which depends on sporting objectives. He joins the national champions as a free agent.

Smalling arrives after leaving Al Fayha at the end of last season, having previously played for Roma and Manchester United.

"I felt very wanted, not only by the coach but also by the club, which did what it could to bring me here. It was good to hear the coach’s words, how he sees me and how he thinks I fit in, the things I can add. He did his research, he watched my games, and it just made sense," he said to the club’s official channels on his unveiling.

"With just 10 minutes of conversation, I knew this had to happen and it was done."
