Southampton striker Damion Downs has completed a season-long loan to MLS club St. Louis City ahead of the USA transfer deadline.
According to Daily Echo, the 22-year-old is not in head coach Tonda Eckert's plans after 11 Championship appearances without a goal last season.
He joined Saints from 2. Bundesliga side FC Koln in July 2025 and failed to impress, then moved on loan to German top-division team Hamburg.
The USA international featured 12 times there without a goal or an assist, was dropped from the side, then returned to Southampton for assessment in July.
Downs will now play out the rest of the regular season and the MLS sprint season with the new MLS side.
He signed a four-year deal at St Mary's last summer, so he is under contract until 2029 and could return when the loan ends. The agreement includes an option to buy, and St. Louis City have already paid Charlotte FC $350,000 (£260,000) for his discovery rights.
