Southampton under-21s midfielder Moses Sesay has joined League Two Colchester United on a season-long loan.

"First team football [is my goal this season]. Whether it's here or going out on loan. Wherever it is, I'm ready," he said last week after the under-21s' 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, speaking to Daily Echo.

"I like to be in the pocket; half turn and drive. I like to create and score goals."

Sesay, 19, made his senior debut a year ago in a Carabao Cup tie at Norwich City and has not featured for the first team since. This is his first crack at men's football.

He shone for Adam Lallana's under-21s last season, scoring four goals and registering three assists. The teenager joined from Chelsea on a scholarship in 2023 and signed his first professional deal in January 2025, running until 2028.

Sesay is the second Saints youngster to head to Colchester on loan this year, following attacking midfielder Romeo Akachukwu, who spent the second half of last season at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Southampton have also loaned under-21s striker Nick Oyekunle to League One Leyton Orient for his first senior spell, while midfielder Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh has joined Northampton Town permanently.

Colchester manager Danny Cowley said they are pleased to add Sesay, noting it is his first loan and that they will work on his out-of-possession game. He can operate in several attacking roles, including seven, eight, 10 and 11, and is set to be included in Colchester's squad to face Oldham Athletic tomorrow afternoon.
