Spain’s 26-man squad have learned their World Cup shirt numbers, with several eye-catching choices as they bid for a second global crown in the Americas.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, only Joan García, 13, and Ferran Torres, seven, retain their Barcelona numbers.
Gavi will wear nine, unusual for his role yet a figure he has often used for Spain. The 10 goes to Dani Olmo, a natural fit for a roaming playmaker.
Pedri, eight at Barcelona, will take 20 for Spain. Lamine Yamal reverts to 19, and Pau Cubarsí, five at club level, is listed as 22.
The number one, typically for the starting goalkeeper, is assigned to David Raya, while Unai Simón wears 23. Fabián Ruiz is one of the few perfectly aligned with his number, eight.
Rodri will play in 16 and Nico Williams is set for 17.
Before crossing the Atlantic, Spain meet Iraq at Riazor on Thursday 4 June at 21:00, then Peru in the early hours of 9 June at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla.
Spain are top seeds in Group H alongside Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. They open on Monday 15 June at 18:00 in Atlanta, then face Saudi Arabia six days later at the same venue and time. They finish the group in the early hours of Saturday 27 in Guadalajara.
