Stabile denies Fatal Model role as Memphis Depay agrees renewed Corinthians deal without Rojas-style clause | OneFootball

Corinthians and the Cori agreed on Monday night to renew Memphis Depay's contract, and president Osmar Stabile said the club will cover his salary while seeking partners. According to Meu Timao, he also denied any role for Fatal Model in the process.

Stabile added the agreement spans two years and, for now, he will carry it through to year-end, mindful of a possible change of president.

The first extension was revoked on 11 August as Corinthians sought lower terms. In the renewed talks, sponsor Fatal Fans offered an initial R$ 5 million and urged others to join. Stabile said there were no talks with the company on this renewal and any approach would go through marketing and legal first.

He said he regularly speaks to the president of Atlas, owner of the site, but this topic was not discussed.

Concern centred on termination clauses for late payments, as in the Matías Rojas case in 2025. Stabile said the new deal has no such specific clauses and that Depay accepted reduced interest in any default.

Rojas's dispute began in December 2023 when Corinthians missed a signing-on instalment and he claimed R$ 5 million in overdue image rights. A new settlement followed in 2024 under president-elect Augusto Melo and football director Rubão, but after another delay he rescinded in March 2024 and Fifa ordered the club to pay the full value of a contract running to 2027.

The club's finances remain strained, with recurrent delays. On 10 August, July salaries for the men's squad were paid, but image rights, holidays and bonuses remain outstanding, while the women's team are two months late on image rights.

Depay reported to CT Dr. Joaquim Grava on Tuesday morning and is set to train to be available to Fernando Diniz on Thursday. Corinthians host Rosario Central at 21:30 in a decisive Libertadores round of 16 second leg.
