Star Galaxy Midfielder Gets Named Player of the Month for August | OneFootball

After having a terrific showing in the 2025 Leagues Cup and helping his team earn a third-place finish, Marco Reus has been recognized for it. The LA Galaxy star has been named Player of the Month for the fourth month in a row.

Since May, the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has earned this honor each time.

Reus joined the LA Galaxy during August last season. He immediately made an impact as he scored and recorded an assist in his first MLS game. He led his new team to a 2-0 victory over Atlanta United.

The German-born footballer was a part of the Los Angeles Galaxy's team that won the 2024 MLS Cup Finals last December. Reus is helping his team tremendously despite the 4-7-16 record.

Reus turned out key plays in the 2025 Leagues Cup for the LA Galaxy.

In the opening match of Phase One, the Los Angeles Galaxy bested Club Tijuana, 5-2. Reus scored one of the team's five goals.

He scored another in the quarterfinal Knockout Round match against Pachuca. Reus's score broke a 1-1 tie, giving the LA Galaxy the win. That set up a semifinal match against the Seattle Sounders.

Though the Galaxy lost against the Sounders, they still were placed in the consultation match for third. Against Orlando City SC, Reus drew first blood by scoring in the 9th minute of the Third-Place Match.

With the win, the Los Angeles Galaxy also qualified for the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The team was ousted in the quarterfinal by Tigres UANL.

The LA Galaxy have seen improvements on offense because of the German-born footballer's efforts.

In 22 MLS regular-season games this year, Reus has scored five times and recorded nine assists. In the team's last three wins, he has either had a goal or passed leading to one.

What's next for Reus and the LA Galaxy?

The first game of September for the Los Angeles Galaxy is against the Houston Dynamo. This was the rescheduled match from earlier this season due to weather and safety conditions for the players.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CT and 5:30 p.m. PT on Saturday. The game will be played at Shell Energy Stadium.

This is a rematch of both the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup Finals, in which the LA Galaxy won against the Houston Dynamo.
