“Step by step”

Head coach Albert Riera, Jonathan Burkardt and Oscar Højlund give their thoughts after the 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Head coach Albert Riera: “I’m pleased for the players and also for our fans, who travelled here and gave us brilliant support. We saw two different halves. In the first half, we controlled virtually everything. In the second half, our pressing wasn’t at the same level and, as well as that, the opponents did well. Other teams react to situations just like we do, so it’s not always a given that everything’s going to work over 90 minutes – even though that’s obviously always the ideal. Wolfsburg played off a lot of second balls, crosses, one-v-one situations. We have to keep improving so that we also get chances and goals in the second half in our own way. That’s what we take away.”

Jonathan Burkardt: “We played very well in the first half and dominated, although we also had a bit of luck. In the second half, we held on. I can’t really explain it, we were too passive and pretty much only defended. That’s not the style we want to play. I hope we can manage to keep it up over 90 minutes soon. The main thing is: three points!”

Oscar Højlund: “We spoke a lot beforehand about character – I think we showed that in impressive fashion. We can be especially pleased with the first half. In the second half, we didn’t manage to pick up from where we left off in the first. You also have to credit the opponents for that, though, as they didn’t make it easy for us. It’s the three points that count. I’m happy about my goal. I want to improve week by week. It happens step by step, and this game was a step in the right direction.”
