It was all part of Women’s League Cup sponsor Subway’s link-up with BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), Fresh Moves, intended to promote sport in higher education.

They invited 33 students from Birmingham and Aston Universities to the crunch Subway Women’s League Cup clash between Aston Villa and Birmingham City at the Bescot Stadium.

And the students also got the chance to ask Parker and Magill ahead of kick-off in what turned out to be an enthralling match, finishing 3-3 on the night with City edging the penalty shoot-out for the bonus point.

Students “delighted” to attend match

Matt Flint, Senior Brand and Strategy Manager for Subway, said in a media statement: “We are always on the look-out for exciting new ways to connect our Fresh Moves partners, and this seemed like the perfect way to offer some of our BUCS teams an unforgettable night out.

“Everyone had a great evening, and we hope to run more events like this continue to grow and promote the women’s game in the UK.”

Amy Preston, Club Development Manager for the University of Birmingham, added: “We were delighted to be invited to the game between Aston Villa and Birmingham City by Subway.

“Our students had a brilliant time – it was a night to remember for them, and they are already talking about when they can watch their favourite players back in action again soon.”

The draws for the quarter and semi-finals of the competition will take place on Tuesday 25 November 2025 at 6pm, live on the Barclays WSL TikTok channel, and will be conducted by GK Barry and Ella Rutherford.
