Stuttgart sell Lazar Jovanovic to Udinese after one season | OneFootball

VfB Stuttgart have confirmed the permanent exit of Lazar Jovanovic to Udinese after one season, banking a quick profit despite his limited game time.

According to Sky Germany, Udinese will pay an initial €6.5m plus up to €1.5m in bonuses. Stuttgart signed the Serbian from Red Star Belgrade last summer for a reported €4.5m to €5m on a deal to 2029, so the sale secures a margin.

Jovanovic leaves three years before that contract’s end having played only 124 competitive minutes for Sebastian Hoeneß’s side. He made six appearances, three in the Bundesliga and three in the Europa League, with two starts and no full 90.

The winger impressed in the 2025 pre-season operating from the right, yet senior chances were scarce amid a deep attacking group. A loan back to Red Star was considered in winter before injury complicated his progress.

He again stood out in the 2026 pre-season, scoring four goals and supplying two assists in early friendlies, then adding another against Paris FC as the opposition strengthened. Even so, his route to regular minutes remained narrow.

Board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth said the teenager’s pre-season was promising but competition is intense, and that moving to Udinese should offer more playing time. He thanked Jovanovic and wished him well.
