The ongoing instability in Sudan has forced Al-Hilal and Al-Merreikh to compete in a foreign league to stay in shape for continental club competitions.

Both Sudanese sides have received approval from the Confederation of African Football to participate in the Rwandan top flight for the 2025-2026 season.

The two Sudanese giants played in the Mauritanian league last season, with Al-Hilal even being crowned champions in the land of the Mourabitouns.

In the CAF Champions League, Al-Hilal will compete in Group C alongside Lupopo, Sundowns, and MC Alger.

Meanwhile, Al-Merreikh were knocked out in the first round of the CAF Champions League after losing to Lupopo (0-0, 0-1).
