In a recent interview, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness stated that Sunderland are keen on recruiting on-loan Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott. Wyness said,

“I don’t think Villa will get the benefit of the doubt.

“That bridge is burnt now and Elliott can shine. Some of the promoted clubs, possibly even Sunderland, is something I’ve been hearing as to where he might be going.

“We’ll see where that all ends up, but it’s been a very sad episode and one that should have been corrected in some way.

“There must have been a way for authorities to have given exceptions in cases like this and there’s got to be a change in the regulations if there isn’t.”

Elliott’s Lackluster Loan Spell At Aston Villa

Elliott has endured a frustrating loan spell at Aston Villa as he has struggled to feature regularly in Unai Emery’s first team this season. The English talent has been involved in nine matches for the Villans in this campaign, scoring one goal in the process across various competitions.

The 23-year-old is under contract at his parent club, Liverpool, until the end of next season, which could open the door for the Black Cats to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Get Elliott On Board?

Elliott is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area. Elliott is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-winger if needed.

However, the English sensation needs to secure regular first-team starts if he wants to get his career back on track. Hence, a change of scenery to join Sunderland might appeal to the player at this stage of his playing career.

We can expect Elliott to bring more quality and depth to Regis Le Bris’ attack. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Stadium of Light next season.

At 23, Elliott has still got a bright future ahead of him as long as he continues to improve in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Le Bris to get him on board this summer.
