Sunderland can secure a significant financial boost from their final Premier League position over the next three weeks, with a testing run against Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea to close a largely positive season.

According to Sunderland Echo, each league place is worth approximately £2.6m in merit payments, money that could strengthen their summer transfer budget. Based on the current table, 12th carries a £23.8m payout, with all clubs also receiving £29.8m from domestic TV and £59.2m from international rights last season.

The Black Cats remain on the fringes of the European race after Saturday’s draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Whether that yields a Europa Conference League or Europa League berth remains uncertain.

They host Man Utd next weekend, then visit Everton for their final away day, before ending at the Stadium of Light against Chelsea, who are also pushing for Europe.

A strong finish could lift their league placing and, with it, their prize money, offering timely backing before the summer window.
