Sunderland supporters have given a largely glowing verdict on the 1937-inspired Hummel home kit after Tuesday’s unveiling, with sales due to start at eight am on Wednesday. According to Sunderland Echo, heritage details have dominated the early reaction.

Traditional red and white stripes are paired with a button-up collar, a retro crest and black shorts and socks. Many fans have already placed it among Hummel’s strongest Sunderland releases since the brand returned to Wearside.

Supporters praised the club and manufacturer for embracing the past, describing the look as magnificent, while others fixated on finer touches such as the collar, a small back badge and the black socks. The collar in particular drew repeated compliments, though some felt it was simply a decent shirt.

Several said it might pip the popular Championship home shirt as their favourite Hummel design. Others felt it could become an all-time classic, reflecting the warm response to recent retro-influenced kits.

The return of black shorts and socks also landed well, with some saying it will look superb under the lights against Italian teams. One supporter linked the design to Sunderland’s return to European football and suggested the 1937 and Elvis tops could bring good luck in the Premier League and in Europe, while another asked about Europa League name sets.

Not all feedback was positive. A few argued the crest should have matched the original 1937 blue, and some preferred last season’s range, disliking both the badge and the pink change strip.
