Sunderland opened their summer with Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a free, and there is optimism that a second signing is close. TransferMarkt figures show the Black Cats sit £19m in profit for the window after Eliezer Mayenda joined Rennes.

Meunier left Lille and will link up with his new team-mates in the United States in the coming days. Defensive focus has turned to Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie, with talks between the clubs reported to be ongoing.
