Sunderland’s attempts to move on players outside Régis Le Bris’s plans have taken a blow, with Abdoullah Ba’s proposed switch to Peterborough United falling through.

An outline agreement between the clubs had been reached earlier this week, offering Ba the chance to relaunch his career after two years on the fringes. On Wednesday night, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony posted on X that the club had signed two wingers and had chosen not to pursue the widely discussed target.

Ba later stated on his social channels that the move would not go ahead, adding that although the clubs had an agreement, he was not satisfied with the terms. He has entered the final year of his Sunderland contract.

Ba and Luis Hemir have been training away from the main group during pre-season while awaiting opportunities. Ba has not played a competitive game since the end of 2024/25, when he was on loan at Ligue 2 side Dunkerque.

Peterborough signed Sunderland midfielder Harrison Jones earlier this summer and begin their league campaign away at Bradford on Saturday. Sunderland are working to find new clubs for those not in Le Bris’s plans this season.
