Sunderland sit at the summit of a Premier League table measuring points won after falling behind this season. According to Sunderland Echo, the metric highlights their resilience on return to the top flight.
They returned to the Premier League via a 2-1 play-off final win over Sheffield United last season, then added Granit Xhaka, Brian Brobbey and Robin Roefs in a standout summer.
The campaign has delivered hard-earned draws with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, and a historic derby double over Newcastle United.
Regis Le Bris' side have turned deficits into results, typified by Brobbey's winner at Newcastle, Chemsdine Talbi's late strike in the 2-1 success at Chelsea and Wilson Isidor's clincher against Brentford, who remain in the European race with three games left.
In the fightback standings, Sunderland have 19 points from losing positions, matched only by Aston Villa, with AFC Bournemouth and Manchester United among those trailing.
