Sunderland academy forward Marcus Neill has signed his first professional contract this summer, capping a prolific rise through the youth ranks.

The 18-year-old struck 29 goals in 43 games for the Under-18s across league and FA Youth Cup. He stepped up with an Under-21s bow off the bench in October 2024 in a 3-0 win over Norwich City, then scored at that level in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal just over two months later.

"It was almost relief. It's just a start, but it's something I worked towards. When they came in and pulled me into a meeting, I was just speechless. I loved it. It was brilliant." He told ESPN.

Named in Australia Under-19s for the ASEAN Championship in June, he scored in a 2-2 draw with Cambodia, then came off the bench to net a last-minute winner against Indonesia to send his side into a final with Thailand. He played the full 90 minutes as Australia won the final 2-0.

"Coming on and scoring, if you ask me now, I don't really remember it much; I didn't really know how to react. It was a really special moment for me, and I'll probably cherish that forever. As a striker, scoring goals is what you dream about, and to score in front of a big crowd there, it was a good experience, and then obviously to go on and win the whole tournament."
