In a recent print edition, Record claimed that Sunderland remain determined to recruit Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo this summer. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats would have to pay €40m if they are serious about signing the Mozambique wide player this month.

Catamo enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Portuguese club as he managed to put in a series of eye-catching performances for them in Liga Portugal. The 25-year-old featured in 47 matches for Sporting last season, scoring eight goals and earning five assists in all competitions.

The Mozambique talent is currently one of the most talented wide players in Liga Portugal. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Black Cats remain keen on acquiring his services in this transfer window.

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for Sunderland to land him on the cheap before the end of this month.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Get Catamo On Board?

Catamo is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some dangerous runs with it out in the wide areas. He has the vision to play a few killer passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area and can shoot the ball with power from long range.

The Mozambique sensation has done well to add a handful of goals and assists to his game last season. Catamo mainly functions as a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger if needed. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical demands and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to bring him to Wearside this off-season.

We can expect Catamo to improve the quality of Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ frontline. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light next season.

At 25, Catamo has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for the Wearside club to consider this summer. With all things considered, Le Bris would be wise to get him on board before the end of this transfer window.
