Sunderland AFC are reported to have re-established contact with Olympique de Marseille in their bid to sign Igor Paixão (26), according to information from journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Talks are reportedly currently underway regarding a deal worth around €40m including bonuses, which matches the demands of OM owner Franck McCourt. The French club, which need to generate significant revenue, could thus benefit from the sale of the left-winger to boost their coffers.
Paixão, who has been linked with a move to the Black Cats for several days, was absent from the Olympiques’ 2-0 defeat to AS Monaco on Sunday, having reportedly picked up an injury on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season against RC Strasbourg Alsace (4-0).
Having joined from Feyenoord in a €30m transfer last summer, the Brazilian enjoyed a convincing 2025-26 season for Marseille, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
