The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.
The 28-year-old joins Sunderland off the back of a spell with Italian Serie A Women Athora club US Sassuolo. Missipo spent three years with Sassuolo. She made 22 appearances for the club in the Italian top flight last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Prior to her spell in Italy, Missipo turned out for Belgian clubs KAA Gent and RSC Anderlecht, as well as Swiss side FC Basel.
On the international stage, Missipo has been capped by Belgium on 78 occasions while she has scored three goals for her country.
After sealing her move to Sunderland, Missipo said “I am very proud to be here and to sign for Sunderland. I have played in Switzerland and Italy, and those experiences were important steps in my career. Now, this step is about passion, quality and continuing to move in the right direction.
“I believe it is the right move for me. I am really looking forward to working with this new group, and I am excited about what’s to come this season.”
Missipo is Sunderland’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
