Sunderland sign Ecuadorian wonderkid Juan Riquelme Angulo | OneFootball

Sunderland have completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Juan Riquelme Angulo Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.

The highly-rated forward has signed a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Angulo made his professional debut for Independiente del Valle in March 2026 and immediately made an impact, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Mushuc Rung.

Later that month, the teenager received his first call-up to the Ecuador senior squad despite having only just broken into professional football.

Angulo leaves Independiente del Valle after scoring six goals in 15 league appearances this season, averaging a goal every 115 minutes.

The striker now moves to England with Sunderland hoping to develop one of Ecuador’s most promising young attacking talents.
