Sunderland have completed the signing of Jamaican international midfielder Reanna Blades on a free transfer.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 19-year-old winger joins Sunderland after recently leaving FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley. Blades made 13 appearances for The Clarettes in league competition last season, scoring two goals. The player started her senior career with Chelsea while she has also previously turned out for Lewes in the second tier.

On the international stage, Blades recently made her senior debut for the Jamaican national team.

After adding Blades to her squad, Sunderland boss Melanie Reay said “We are delighted to bring Reanna to Wearside. Her profile suits our style of play – she is a direct and skilful winger, who will be a threat on either flank.

“Although she has already proved herself in WSL 2, we believe Reanna has greater potential that we are perfectly suited to unlocking, so we can’t wait for her to join up with our squad ahead of the 2025/2026 season.”

Blades is Sunderland’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Lady Black Cats have also added defender Rhiannon Roberts to their squad in the close season.
