Nottingham Forest, led by Vitor Pereira and fighting relegation, visit the Stadium of Light on Friday evening. According to Sunderland Echo, here are five players to have represented both clubs.

Danny Collins, Fans’ Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, cost £140,000 under Mick McCarthy. He helped secure two Sunderland promotions, then captained Forest under Sean O’Driscoll.

Jack Colback, an academy graduate, scored in the 3-0 derby at St James’ Park in February 2014. Four months later he joined Newcastle. He later had two loans at Forest before a 2020 free transfer, playing 66 times.

Daryl Murphy arrived from Waterford United and scored once in 18 Premier League games, then 10 in 38 in the Championship. He moved to Forest in 2017 and spent two seasons there.

Nicklas Bendtner hit eight in 30 on loan at Sunderland in 2011-12 after saying he would not play for Arsenal again. After spells with Juventus and Wolfsburg, he signed a two-year deal at Forest, scored two in 17 and left after six months.

Lewis Grabban offered rare cheer in a five-month loan during Sunderland’s 2017-18 Championship season, scoring 12 in 20 before Bournemouth recalled him and loaned him to Aston Villa. Forest then signed him for a rumoured £6 million, he scored 54 in 144 and joined their staff as a Professional Development Phase coach in August 2024.
