Sunderland could yet add to their squad on deadline day, with work continuing in the final hours of a pivotal summer. According to Sunderland Echo, Europa League qualification from last season’s seventh place will add at least eight extra fixtures to an already busy calendar.

With just over 24 hours left in the window, Regis Le Bris has seen three arrivals, defenders Thomas Meunier and Dayaan Methalie, then Royal Antwerp youngster Jules Ahoka, who was on the bench as the Black Cats claimed their first win of the season against Fulham on Sunday.

Attention has since turned to further additions, with links to Marseille winger Igor Paixao, Roma’s Matias Soule and Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso. An initial loan offer for Danso was rejected late last week, and talks are believed to have resumed with Spurs in the hope of a deal before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

There is believed to be interest from other clubs in Soule, and Paixao is thought to be keen on a move to Wearside, although no agreement is in place with Marseille.

If deadline day goes to plan, a strongest XI could feature goalkeeper Robin Roefs behind a back four of Nordi Mukiele, Kevin Danso, Dan Ballard and Reinildo Mandava. Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki and Enzo Le Fee would patrol midfield, with Matias Soule and Igor Paixao either side of Brian Brobbey. Potential substitutes include Trai Hume, Melker Ellborg, Omar Alderete, Thomas Meunier, Wilson Isidor, Chemsdine Talbi, Habib Diarra, Chris Rigg and Jules Ahoka.
