Melker Ellborg has been omitted from Sweden’s World Cup squad after Graham Potter named his 26-man group, Sunderland Echo reports.

Uncapped at senior level, Ellborg received a call-up earlier this year after Robin Roefs’ injury opened a path at Sunderland amid injuries in Potter’s pool.

Roefs has since reclaimed the starting shirt and Potter has favoured experience. AIK’s former Swansea keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt is joined by Viktor Johansson of Stoke and Jacob Widell Zetterström of Derby. Nordfeldt returned for the March play-offs and looks the likeliest number one this summer.

Sunderland should still be well represented. Granit Xhaka, Omar Alderete, Habib Diarra and Nilson Angulo are regulars for Switzerland, Paraguay, Senegal and Ecuador, all qualified, and, if fit, look virtually guaranteed picks. Sadiki is a DR Congo regular and should feature if fit, while Roefs could be selected by the Netherlands, with Brian Brobbey and Lutsharel Geertruida also strong contenders after recent Koeman call-ups.

Chemsdine Talbi made his first start for Morocco in Tuesday’s friendly and, having been in their recent AFCON squad, seems likely to travel. Wilson Isidor will also travel after choosing Haiti, winning his first caps and netting his first international goal in this window.

Simon Adingra and Arthur Masuaku could also feature for the Ivory Coast and DR Congo respectively, though there is uncertainty over whether they will still be Sunderland players by the summer.
