With a little over two weeks remaining, Sunderland are weighing up late additions before their Europa League campaign.

According to Sunderland Echo, the window opened on Monday 15 June and closes at 11pm on Tuesday 1 September. Clubs may file a transfer deal sheet after nine pm to secure two extra hours, with final paperwork permitted until one am.

Incomings have been sparse on Wearside. Experienced full-back Thomas Meunier is the sole addition so far, signed on a free transfer.

Departures have been more active. Eliezer Mayenda has joined Stade Rennais in France, and academy graduate Antony Patterson has moved to Wrexham. Nazariy Rusyn, Leo Hjelde, Ahmed Abdullahi, Harrison Jones, Arthur Masuaku, Milan Aleksic and Timothee Pembele have also found new clubs.

Dennis Cirkin, Dan Neil, Bertrand Traore and Niall Huggins left at the end of their contracts, while loanee Lutsharel Geertruida has returned to RB Leipzig.

Plans for the remainder of the window are deliberately opaque, though reinforcements on the left of defence and on the right wing are being explored. A left-sided centre-back could arrive, and after Mayenda’s exit a number of strikers have been linked. Regis Le Bris says the market is unpredictable, Sunderland are working to strengthen, and any signings must precisely fit the team’s culture and needs. He also noted the Premier League is very demanding, describing this period as a new step forward.
