According to L'Équipe, Tahirys Dos Santos, 19, is to sign his first professional contract with Metz, with the club expected to confirm early next week. The left-back came through the club’s academy.
His 2026 began in horror but has brightened in recent weeks. He survived the fire at Le Constellation bar in the Swiss town of Crans-Montana in the night of 31 December to 1 January.
Club staff had assured him they would be there when needed, a stance praised by his family. Plans for a deal had been forming even before the tragedy, which killed 41 and seriously injured 115, including Dos Santos, his partner Coline and several friends.
Burned across 30% of his body, notably the head, arms and chest, he spent several weeks in hospital. He has since resumed training, first alone then with the Metz reserves.
He returned to action last Saturday for the reserve side in National 3. Previously on a trainee contract, he is highly regarded at the club and admired for the resolve and calm he has shown.
