Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad and Japanese star Haruka Fukuhara have married, the couple said in a joint Instagram post on Friday. The pair, aged 25 and 28 respectively, asked to be warmly supported as they begin life together.
The announcement included a photo of their wedding rings and a handwritten message. They expressed gratitude for backing since childhood and spoke of building a warm home together with mutual support. The news arrived without prior media reports or rumours in Japan.
Kubo, a forward for Japan, is currently involved in friendlies with the national team. He has been a major figure since youth and has played for Real Sociedad since 2022. His path took in Barcelona’s academy, a return to Japan and a subsequent move to Real Madrid while still very young.
The revelation triggered huge attention across Japanese media and social platforms, and has been widely portrayed as a surprise and a swift wedding. Fans have flooded the pair with congratulations.
Football figures also weighed in, with likes and comments on both Instagram profiles. Kubo received messages from Beñat Turrientes, Jon Mikel Aramburu and Yangel Herrera, as well as Kazunari Kita and Real Sociedad. He replied to many, including former team-mates Mikel Goti, Robert Navarro, Sheraldo Becker and Álex Sola.
It remains to be seen whether Fukuhara will move to San Sebastián to live with Kubo.
