Lisandro Martínez's thoughts were also sought and it's fair to say he hasn't held back:

"What I can't understand is the rules... but I want to be calm now and control myself. It's so hard because we lost the derby and three points at home.

"Every season they're coming to our club, they explain for one hour, one hour-and-a-half the rules, and they look so confident with that. Then after five, six people doing these kind of mistakes in the Premier League - it's unacceptable.

"Because it's the best league in the world, you have the best teams in the world, the best players in the world, and now we have to go home with this injustice."

Match-winner Erling Haaland has been speaking to Sky Sports after the game about Enzo Maresca's change of strategy after Phil Foden's red card:

"Enzo gave us a plan [at half-time] and we could play to different strengths, counter-attack a bit more, and for me I just have to be there and wait for a chance, and if a chance comes I have to be ready to execute. And we also need fighters which we have plenty of. Look at our midfield - if there's something they like to do it's fight! I'm so, so proud of everyone!"

On Gianluigi Donnarumma's stoppage-time save:

"What a save! What a keeper he is, I've said it plenty of times. This wolf in goal, he looks a bit like a wolf, so to have him in the goal gives you so much confidence, honestly. In the end, he's a mad man behind there and we're so lucky to have him. He's a match-winner as well, so all praise to him"

It's not been a great day for the Old Trafford faithful

MANCHESTER IS BLUE!

Referee Michael Oliver calls time on the 199th Manchester derby and the spoils go to the blue half! A huge win for Enzo Maresca so early into his reign at the Etihad Stadium and from a real position of adversity after Foden's sending off.

AN INCREDIBLE SAVE FROM DONNARUMMA!

Mbeumo is picked out in the 95th minute with the headlines beckoning but he's denied by the City stopper making a sublime stop to deny him

We're about to have five minutes' added time. Will there be a change in the scoreline?

United send on Zirkzee for a flagging Rashford in hopes of turning the tide of this derby

CITY PUT IT WIDE!

It looked all set to be 2-0 to the visitors as Guéhi meets a free kick at the far post but puts it wide

HUGE CHANCE GOES BEGGING!

Dalot sends a cross in that Mbeumo gets his head on but sends it wide of the target

UNITED GO CLOSE!

Fernandes unleashes a powerful drive towards goal but it's met with an equally strong save by Donnarumma

Well, there you have it

LAMMENS KEEPS UNITED IN IT!

Enzo sweeps a right-footed shot from the edge of the D which Lammens pushes onto the post with a brilliant stop

The Norway international is now officially top dog in the Cottonopolis

CITY HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD!

VAR took a long look and the goal does stand! It looks like Dorgu was playing Haaland on in the build-up

SECOND HALF

Back to it and there's a change for City with Ndiaye replacing Cherki from the interval

GOALLESS AT THE BREAK

The half-time whistle has blown at the Theatre of Dreams and it's been the stuff of nightmares for City despite remaining on level terms. Foden's red card shifted the balance of play back in United's favour after that moment

UNITED HIT THE POST!

A free kick from just outside the area is struck brilliantly by Rashford but crashes back off Donnarumma's righthand post. The City stopper wasn't reaching that!

The official explanation behind Foden's instant dismissal has just been revealed

CHANCE!

Fernandes plays a brilliant ball in for Rashford but Donnarumma is able to smother the ball

RED CARD! CITY DOWN TO TEN MEN!

Wow - talk about a blow-up! The visitors are down to ten men after Foden kicks out at Fernandes after a coming together. City can have little complaints about that one but the United captain should have been booked for instigating the whole thing

CHANCE!

Semenyo gets in behind Dalot and angles a pretty tame shot from the left side of the box which doesn't really trouble Lammens

CHANCE!

Mainoo plays a brilliant ball to the far post for Rashford but he gets his angles all wrong and heads it out of play
