Former Leeds United midfielder Terry Yorath is being laid to rest in Leeds today after his death on 7 January at the age of 75 following a short illness. According to Leeds Live, the service is at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Harrogate Road from noon.
Footage showed the hearse arriving as Gabby Logan and family entered the church. Broadcaster Bryn Law and ex-Leeds forward Noel Whelan were among the mourners.
Cardiff-born Yorath made 199 appearances for Leeds across a nine-year spell and won 59 caps for Wales. He later managed Wales, Swansea City twice and Cardiff City, and worked as assistant at Huddersfield Town before managing Sheffield Wednesday.
In a family statement, his children, including BBC Match of the Day host Gabby Logan, described a revered football figure to many but a quiet, kind and gentle father to them, and said they were heartbroken while taking comfort that he would be reunited with their brother Daniel. He had four children, Gabby, Louise, Jordan and Daniel, the latter dying in 1992 aged just 15 from a genetic heart condition.
Logan thanked well-wishers and said the family knew his time was limited, yet his passing still came as a shock. She recalled discussing in hospital on Wednesday whether roast potatoes or mash suited calves liver, adding he had hoped to eat that at home the next day and to watch Newcastle against the club he loved, Leeds.
