Ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen at Hampden, Carter-Vickers applauded his former gaffer’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday. “It was good, I watched the game last night,” he said on Thursday at his pre-match media conference ahead of today’s Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen at Hampden.

“It wasn’t the greatest game from an entertainment standpoint, but it is massive for Tottenham getting a trophy and for Ange as well. He said that he always wins in his second season, and he’s done that, so I’m happy for him.

“When he left here, the players were disappointed, but the majority enjoyed working under him and wanted the best for him. Their Premier League season has not been great, which is something they’ll have to work on going forward, but for them to get over the line in a cup competition is great for them, and it shows what he can do.”

Asked about Postecoglou’s now world famous quote about always winning a trophy in his second seasonCCV added his own thoughts: “That quote will definitely go down in history!”

Following a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the North London Derby last September, Postecoglou told Sky Sports that he “always wins things” in his second season insisting the defeat had not altered his belief.

Eight months on and Wales international Brennan Johnson’s winning goal at San Mamés secured Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years as Postecoglou’s men overcame Ruben Amorim’s side in the final.

Should the former Celtic boss remain in charge of Tottenham for next season, he will have the opportunity to claim a second trophy next season in the UEFA Super Cup against either Inter or PSG. Addressing Spurs fans during the street party – are you watching Glasgow City Council? – Ange remarked that like in all good TV series the third season is better than the second.

It would be crazy if Spurs sacked Ange now but you never know at that club. He’d certainly be a tough act to follow.
