Leeds United have been urged to meet Sheffield United's asking price for Jayden Bogle in a bid to address their woes in the right-back berth.

Leeds' interest in Bogle was first called by The Telegraph's Mike McGrath this past weekend. Football Insider have subsequently reported that the Whites have seen two bids for Bogle rejected from their Yorkshire and divisional rivals, who are eager to hold on to the defender after suffering relegation from the Premier League last season.

Football Insider's report reveals that Bogle has his heart set on Elland Road and is unwilling to strike an extension to his contract, with his current deal set to expire in less than a year's time.

Meanwhile, according to transfer guru Alan Nixon of The Sun, the Blades have set a valuation of £7 million, and Leeds have been advised to meet their demands in order to solve their long-term problem position.

Leeds are now left with a dearth of options at right-back with Jamie Shackleton, Connor Roberts and Luke Ayling all leaving at the end of last season.

However, Roberts failed to force his way into Daniel Farke's thinking while on loan from Burnley, Ayling spent the second half of the previous campaign with Middlesbrough prior to penning a permanent agreement and Shackleton, who has since moved to Bramall Lane, is a central midfielder by trade.

So too is Archie Gray, who spent the majority of 2023/24 filling in on the right side of Farke's backline, but still did enough to earn a mega-money move to Tottenham Hotspur, showing his clear potential to all.

It's little surprise therefore that Leeds are in for a right-back, and Football League World's Leeds fan pundit Kris Smith has urged the club to meet the Blades' asking price for Bogle.

"£7 million, if that's the reported asking price then that's a justifiable amount from Sheffield United's point of view given that they've just been relegated and they're potentially selling to a promotion rival in Leeds," Kris explained to Football League World.

"Having had two bids rejected already, I can see Leeds pushing this one through and just getting it over the line as soon as possible knowing that it's a really important position to lock down for next season.

"In terms of the player we're getting, I think Bogle really suits what Farke wants down to a tee. He's great at carrying the ball over large distances and he's got pace to burn going forward- and he's got an eye for goal.

"Last season our right channel looked like a dead zone in lot of games and it's not for the lack of talent we had, it's just the imbalance of the players we had in those positions.

"You had a teenage midfielder playing right-back and Willy Gnonto, who is better on the left, playing on the right ,so you've got two players who just don't suit each other.

"Getting Bogle in and potentially changing who plays on the right, that drastically changes to having potentially one of the best pairings out there in the league."

Leeds United would regret not meeting Sheffield United's Jayden Bogle asking price

Chris Wilder is undoubtedly driving a hard bargain but it's still a fair fee for a player of Bogle's quality and proven Championship experience, the importance of which simply cannot be understated.

Still only 23, Bogle already possesses years of crucial know-how at this level with Derby County and the Blades, and represents a dynamic, attack-minded outlet on the right flank.

Capable of doubling up and making overlapping runs at will, Bogle is defensively solid enough but truly thrives at carrying the ball forward and utilising his speed and directness to optimal effect in attacking transitions.

Leeds are in real need of a player of Bogle's profile and he certainly ticks all the boxes while also providing a long-term solution with his age, as he's still a few years off truly hitting his prime.

The possibility of significantly weakening a direct rival - and a promotion one of that - makes a move for Bogle even more enticing, and Leeds could well live to regret not making it if they fail to meet the Blades' asking price.
