A Bayern star is surprisingly missing from the German squad for the match against Greece. He is apparently being rested.
In a surprise move, Jürgen Klopp has decided to leave Serge Gnabry out of the final match of the current international break. The FC Bayern forward is not part of the 23-man roster for Sunday evening’s Nations League match against Greece.
The DFB confirmed this. As a result, Gnabry’s international trip is ending earlier than expected. Nico Schlotterbeck had already had to leave the camp due to injury.
For Gnabry, the decision comes as quite a surprise. As recently as Thursday, the 30-year-old was in the starting lineup for the 2-0 win over Serbia and even led the German national team onto the field as captain. It was also his first start in a DFB jersey since his serious injury last season.
As things stand, there are strong indications that Klopp is deliberately easing the Bayern player’s workload. No specific new injury concerns have been reported.
Given Gnabry’s history, the decision seems understandable. After his long layoff, the attacking player has been gradually reintroduced to higher levels of physical exertion over the past few weeks.

Gnabry played 45 minutes against Serbia and expressed great satisfaction with his special evening after the match:“A wonderful experience. A day I’m very proud of,” the Bayern star told ZDF.
So now Gnabry will get an extra break before returning to FC Bayern’s demanding club schedule.
For the match in Greece, Klopp will once again reshuffle the German offense. This could provide other players in the large DFB squad with an additional opportunity for playing time—such as Bayern youngster Lennart Karl.
