The players that will not be in action when Norwich host West Brom this weekend

Norwich City and West Brom will return to league action this weekend for the opening round of fixtures of the new season.

The Canaries will host James Morrison’s side, and expectations are high at Carrow Road for the year ahead.

Philippe Clement’s side finished ninth in 2025/26, and a strong second half of the campaign has given fans plenty of reason to be optimistic.

Meanwhile, the Baggies narrowly avoided relegation with a 21st place finish, but fans are similarly hopeful for the year ahead.

But that optimism will be given a stern test on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off, as defeat for either side would be quite deflating.

Here we look at the players set to miss the clash between Norwich and West Brom…

Norwich City

Ali Ahmed has suffered a significant pre-season injury that means he will miss the start of the season, and it could be a while before he is available again.

The club have confirmed that the winger has ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee, which will keep him out of action for several months.

This comes as a major blow for the Canaries, as the 25-year-old had performed well in the second half of last season after arriving from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January.

Lucien Mahovo

Clement has confirmed that Lucien Mahovo will miss the start of the new Championship season.

The left-back will be absent due to an ankle injury that will see him miss the clash against the Baggies on Saturday.

No timeframe has been given for when he might return, with ligament damage suffered in July as part of pre-season.

Kellen Fisher

Kellen Fisher also suffered an injury in pre-season, which has come as a blow to the Canaries.

The defender is set to miss the clash against West Brom after he endured an ankle injury in training last month.

Fisher is set to be absent for a total of six weeks, so he may make his return before the end of the month, but a September comeback is more likely.

Jovon Makama

Jovon Makama is set to make his return sooner than Fisher, but will still be unavailable for the home game against Albion.

The 22-year-old suffered a foot injury in July and has been sidelined for around four weeks, so he will not be in action this weekend.

West Brom

Mikey Johnston remains on the sidelines for West Brom, with the Norwich clash coming too soon for him to make his return to the team.

The winger has been out of action for a number of months after suffering a broken ankle earlier this year.

His last appearance for Albion came on 28 February, but he was forced off after 21 minutes as the club lost 2-1 to Oxford United.

Tammer Bany has endured a lot of injury issues since making the move to the Hawthorns in January 2025.

And he is set to miss the trip to Carrow Road this weekend, as he continues his recovery to full fitness.

While he did feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier this month, he is not in line to travel to Norfolk this weekend.
