We looked at which Ipswich Town players are set to leave the club next summer when their contracts expire.
After suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, Ipswich Town will be looking to bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt this campaign.
Ipswich returned to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years last season after winning back-to-back promotions under manager Kieran McKenna, but it proved to be a step too far for them, and they were relegated with a total of just 22 points.
The Tractor Boys lost some of their key players this summer following relegation, including the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Cameron Burgess, Sam Morsy, Omari Hutchinson, Nathan Broadhead and Liam Delap, but the Suffolk outfit certainly spent big as they rebuilt their squad for a promotion push.
Ipswich brought in a total of 11 new signings this summer, with David Button, Darnell Furlong, Ashley Young, Cedric Kipre, Azor Matusiwa, Jens Cajuste, Marcelino Nunez, Kasey McAteer, Sindre Walle Egeli, Chuba Akpom and Ivan Azon all arriving at Portman Road, and their squad depth will be the envy of many in the second tier.
After an inconsistent start to the season, McKenna's current focus will be on guiding his side up the table, but he will soon have some big decisions to make on his squad, and we looked at which players will be leaving the club this summer as things stand when their contracts expire.
Goalkeeper Christian Walton initially joined Ipswich on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2021 before making the move permanent in January 2022, and he played a starring role to help the club win promotion from League One in the 2022-23 season, keeping a stunning 23 clean sheets in 46 appearances.
However, Walton surprisingly lost his place in the team after promotion, and he has remained second choice ever since, so with his contract due to expire in the summer, the 29-year-old will have a big call to make about whether to depart in search of regular football.
Goalkeeper David Button made the move to Ipswich this summer following his release by League One side Reading, with the 36-year-old putting pen to paper on a one-year contract at Portman Road.
Button is currently third-choice behind Alex Palmer and Walton, so there is no guarantee that he will ever feature for the Tractor Boys, but at this stage of his career, he may be content to play a back-up role.
Defender Harry Clarke returned to his boyhood club Ipswich from Arsenal for a fee of £1.5 million in January 2023, and he played an integral role as the club won consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League, but he fell out of favour last season in the top flight.
After spending the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, Clarke is now back at Portman Road, but he is yet to feature this campaign due to injury, and he will face strong competition for his place from new signing Darnell Furlong once he returns to fitness.
It looked as though winger turned right-back Ashley Young was set to return to former club Watford following his release by Everton this summer, but he instead signed a one-year contract with Ipswich.
Despite now being 40 years of age, Young is still a capable performer, as he proved for the Toffees in the Premier League last season, but having been limited to mainly substitute appearances for the Tractor Boys so far, it remains to be seen whether he will call time on his illustrious career at the end of the campaign.
Defender Conor Townsend joined Ipswich from West Bromwich Albion last summer, and despite largely being a back-up to Leif Davis last season, he was a solid performer whenever called upon by McKenna.
Townsend would have been hoping for more regular opportunities in the Championship this season, but he suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season that is expected to rule him out for much of the campaign, and that could have a big impact on his future.
Midfielder Cameron Humphreys is a product of the Ipswich academy, and after an impressive loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers in League One last season, during which he scored seven goals and provided six assists in 50 appearances, he would have been hoping for a chance to prove himself at Portman Road.
However, with Azor Matusiwa, Jens Cajuste, Marcelino Nunez and Jack Taylor all ahead of him in the pecking order, Humphreys' game time is likely to remain limited this season, and the 21-year-old may need to depart in the summer and establish himself as a regular elsewhere.
Winger Wes Burns joined Ipswich from Fleetwood Town in the summer of 2021, and he was one of their best performers as they won back-to-back promotions.
Burns was also a regular in the Premier League in the first half of last season, but he has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury back in January, and while McKenna is known to be a big fan of the Welsh international, he may wait to see whether he can rediscover his form once he returns to fitness before making a decision on his future.
Like Burns, forward Conor Chaplin was another of the driving forces behind Ipswich's double promotion success, but he was allowed to return to former club Portsmouth on loan this summer, much to the surprise of the Tractor Boys fanbase.
McKenna has confirmed that he will keep a close eye on Chaplin's performances at Fratton Park, with his loan deal including an option to recall in January, while he also insisted that the 28-year-old could still have a future at Portman Road, but with his contract expiring in the summer, that looks unlikely as things stand.
