Chelsea have no regrets at missing out on the signing of Jeremy Jacquet because of their decision to keep Josh Acheampong and Mamadou Sarr as part of their plans according to The Athletic.

The Blues spent the majority of the window trying to sign the France under-21 international, but Jacquet opted to join Liverpool instead.

Despite making it clear they wanted to sign a centre half, Chelsea ended up recalling Sarr from his loan with Strasbourg.

Chelsea reportedly matched Liverpool’s offer for Jacquet, but that wasn’t enough, and the 20-year-old opted to move to Anfield, and will arrive in the summer.

The Blues will now have to wait until the summer to sign a centre back, and they also reportedly had Como’s Jacobo Ramon and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi on their shortlist.

Having it made it clear Jacquet was their primary target, it was a blow to miss out, and The Athletic have revealed how Chelsea feel about the situation.

They’ve reported Chelsea have no regrets at missing out because of their decision to keep both Acheampong and Sarr as part of their plans.

Sarr knows Rosenior well, having worked with him for 18 months at Strasbourg, and it will be interesting to see what opportunities he gets.

However, Acheampong was an unused sub for the last four games, and only played three minutes against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Blues have got to prove there will be opportunities and give him chances, otherwise it’s very likely Acheampong will ask to leave in the summer, especially if Chelsea as expected sign another centre back.
