Chelsea still aren’t fully certain how long Liam Delap will be out for with a hamstring injury according to journalist Matt Law.

Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich for £30m this summer, and scored his first goal for the Blues at the Club World Cup.

The 22-year-old also scored twice against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly, and has started two of the first three Premier League games.

However, Delap only lasted 15 minutes against Fulham before being forced off with a hamstring injury, in a blow for both Chelsea and the player.

It’s been reported Delap will be out for ten weeks and is expected to return to training in November, and be fit for the busy festive schedule.

However, Law has provided an update and stated Chelsea still weren’t entirely sure how long the England under-21 international would be out for.

“The club aren’t fully certain still of exactly how long it will be,” he told The London Is Blue Podcast.

“I know that there was a scan on Monday, but Chelsea are still waiting on further scans to be absolutely sure of a time scale on that hamstring injury.”

Marc Guiu to step up for Chelsea

Chelsea didn’t sign a striker in light of Delap’s injury despite making enquiries for Conrad Harder, and instead recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland.

The Blues signed Guiu last summer from Barcelona, but he only made three league appearances, although he did miss the majority of the second half of the season through injury.

Enzo Maresca is going to have to trust Guiu more this time, as Joao Pedro simply won’t be able to play every minute of every game in Delap’s absence.

Maresca is said to like Guiu’s intensity and hunger, with the Spaniard almost certain to get opportunities to show what he can do.
