The Italian club Sassuolo appears poised to secure the permanent services of Canadian-Ivorian midfielder Ismaël Koné. Current information suggests the club is set to trigger the obligatory purchase option attached to his loan deal, a move that would see his time with Olympique de Marseille (OM) come to a definitive end.
Koné's journey at Marseille never truly ignited, leading to his loan spell at Sassuolo at the start of the season. A return to the French south now seems increasingly unlikely. The key factor is a mandatory buy-out clause in the loan agreement, which becomes active upon Sassuolo securing their place in Serie A for the next season. This appears to be a highly probable outcome, as the club currently sits comfortably in 8th place, with a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone.
The transfer is reported to be valued at €10 million, a figure not expected to be a stumbling block for Sassuolo's management, especially considering Koné's current market valuation is estimated at €12 million. Since his arrival in Italy, the midfielder has made nine league appearances and found the back of the net once. His long-term contract with Marseille was originally set to run until June 2029.
