Chelsea are one of four Premier League clubs said to be monitoring RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are once again set for another busy summer, and it’s said they could look to fund their moves in the market by selling as many as seven or eight players.

Chelsea face a crucial window with a number of key areas in the squad needing to be addressed, with the club needing to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker.

Chelsea monitoring Simons

The Blues have been linked with a number of attackers, mainly wingers including the likes of Nico Williams and Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund.

However, with Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku looking like they don’t have futures at Chelsea beyond this summer, there could be scope to bring in a more central attacker, despite the arrival of Estevao Willian after the Club World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano has reported Chelsea are one of four Premier League club’s monitoring the situation around RB Leipzig star Simons.

“The feeling from sources close to the process is that Xavi Simons could be available for a fee of around €70-75m (£58-62m) in this transfer window, which is a potential big opportunity for many top clubs who’ve been following Simons’ rise since he was a wonderkid at Barcelona, a gem at PSG before becoming a star at PSV Eindhoven,” he wrote in his Give Me Sport column.

“The same Premier League clubs attentive to Xavi’s situation one year ago, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, are still very well-informed on developments around the Dutch talent.

Simons is predominantly an attacking midfielder who can play wide and the 21-year-old has eight goals and five assists in 26 appearances this season.

Whilst, the Dutch international is clearly a talent, what Chelsea really need is an out and out winger to suit Enzo Maresca’s style of play.
